Savita Pawnday speaks on a panel regarding “Technology and hate speech: friend or foe?”

On 8 October Global Centre Deputy Executive Director joined the Montreal Institute for Genocide and Human Rights Studies (MIGS) and Global Action Against Mass Atrocity Crimes (GAAMAC) for a panel on “Technology and hate speech: friend or foe?”. The panel was the second in their “Decoding Hate Speech” series that addressed the complexities of how the internet and social media have considerably amplified the rise of hate speech and polarization in recent years. During the discussion, Ms. Pawnday answered a number of questions, including how online hate turns into offline violence and potential mass atrocities.
