Discussion on the human rights situation in Oromia with OLLAA and Dr. Sarah Vaughan

15 June 2026

On 15 June the Oromo Legacy, Leadership and Advocacy Association (OLLAA) and the Global Centre for the Responsibility to Protect held a discussion on the human rights situation in Oromia, Ethiopia following the 13 May release of OLLAA’s annual human rights report. The report outlines ongoing patterns of human rights violations in Oromia and highlights areas requiring urgent international attention, particularly given the longstanding lack of credible reporting from the region. The discussion will provided a platform to discuss key findings, challenges surrounding data collection, the often overlooked or suppressed state of human rights situation in Oromia and the broader regional and national dynamics shaping the situation.

The event featured remarks from the OLLAA’s founder, Seenaa Jimjimo, an OLLAA researcher whose identity will remained confidential due to security considerations, as well as Dr. Sarah Vaughan, Principal Researcher at The Policy Practice. The discussion was moderated by the Global Centre for R2P’s Senior Research and Advocacy Officer, Sarah Hunter (Ewing).
