To mark the 20th anniversary of the Responsibility to Protect (R2P), which was unanimously adopted at the 2005 UN World Summit, the UN Office on Genocide Prevention and R2P released an interview series with experts on human rights and atrocity prevention. Jelena Pia-Comella, Member of the Committee on the Elimination of Discrimination against Women (CEDAW), reflects on the essence of the responsibility to protect, including how its protection aspiration also reinforces the efforts under the Women, Peace and Security Agenda, and why it matters so much for the humanity on the occasion of its twentieth anniversary.
