On 21 January 2021 the UN GeneralAssembly passed Resolution 775/258 on promoting a culture of peace and tolerance to safeguard religious sites. The resolution recalled that states have “the primary responsibility to promote and protect human rights, including the human rights of persons belonging to religious minorities, including their right to exercise their religion or belief freely.”
