Resolution 53/18 (Syria) A/HRC/RES/53/18

On 13 July the UN Human Rights Council adopted Resolution 53/18 on Syria. The resolution demanded that “the Syrian Arab Republic meet its responsibility to protect its population and to respect and protect the human rights of all persons within its jurisdiction, including persons in detention and their families, in particular those who are at risk of sexual and gender-based violence.” The resolution was adopted by a vote of 24 in favor, 4 against and 18 abstentions.
