Resolution 37/29 (Syria) A/HRC/RES/37/29

On 23 March 2018 the UN Human Rights Council passes Resolution 37/29 on the Syrian Arab Republic. The resolution welcomes the establishment of the International, Impartial and Independent Mechanism to assist in the investigation and prosecution of persons responsible for mass atrocity crimes. Resolution 37/29 also extends the mandate of the Commission of Inquiry for one year. The resolution also “demands that the Syrian authorities meet their responsibility to protect the Syrian population” and “stresses that the primary responsibility to protect the Syrian population lies with the Syrian authorities.”
