Resolution 2349 (Peace and Security in Africa – Lake Chad Basin) S/RES/2349

On 31 March 2017 the UN Security Council passed Resolution 2349 on Peace and Security in Africa. Resolution 2349 focuses on the threat of terrorism in the Lake Chad Basin by Boko Haram and the so-called Islamic State of Iraq and the Levant (ISIL). The resolution reiterates the primary responsibility of member states to protect civilian populations in their territories and encourages countries in the region to prioritize human rights concerns and facilitate greater cooperation with UN agencies.
