Resolution 1653 (Great Lakes Region) S/RES/1653

27 January 2006

On 27 January 2006 the UN Security Council adopted Resolution 1653 on the Great Lakes Region. The following resolution addresses the situations in the Great Lakes Region, namely situations in the Democratic Republic of the Congo and Burundi. Resolution 1653 underscores that the governments in the region have the primary responsibility to protect its population.
