On 11 July Global Centre Executive Director Savita Pawnday was interviewed by Channel Africa (the international broadcasting service of the South African Broadcasting Corporation) on the UN80 reform process. Savita discusses the opportunity presented by UN80 for reforms of the UN’s working methods based on lingering failures to protect populations from atrocities. She highlights the current geopolitical context and fragmentation of international will to preserve peace and promote human rights. Savita also discusses the makeup of the UN Security Council and how Council reform should reflect the realities and power structures of the 21st century.
