Resolution 77/230 (Syria) A/RES/77/230

15 December 2022

On 15 December 2022 the UN General Assembly’s Third Committee passed its tenth annual resolution on the situation in Syria. Resolution 77/230 strongly condemns the systematic, widespread and gross violations and abuses of international human rights law and violations of international humanitarian law committed in Syria and the indiscriminate and disproportionate attacks against the civilian population and against civilian infrastructure, in particular attacks on medical facilities and schools. The resolution expresses grave concern about all persons missing, including those subject to abductions, enforced disappearance and arbitrary detention, first and foremost by the Syrian regime. The resolution also demands that all parties take all appropriate steps to protect civilians, including persons belonging to national or ethnic, religious and linguistic minorities, and stresses that the primary responsibility to protect the population lies with the Syrian regime.
