On 7 October the UN Human Rights Council (HRC) adopted Resolution 51/28 on Burundi. The resolution renewed the mandate of the Special Rapporteur on the situation of human rights in Burundi for a period of one year and requested the Special Rapporteur to present an oral update at the HRC’s 53rd session, as well as a written report at the HRC’s 54th session. The resolution was adopted by a vote of 22 in favor, 12 against and 13 abstentions, and stressed “the primary responsibility of the Government of Burundi for ensuring security in its territory and protecting its population.”
