Resolution 2579 (Sudan) S/RES/2579

3 June 2021

On 3 June 2021 the UN Security Council adopted Resolution 2579 on the situation in Sudan. The resolution extends the mandate of the United Nations Integrated Transition Assistance Mission in Sudan (UNITAMS) until 3 June 2022 and tasks the mission with supporting Sudanese-led peacebuilding, particularly in Darfur, South Kordofan and Blue Nile. Resolution 2579 also reaffirms “the primary responsibility of the Government of Sudan to protect civilians across its territory.”
