Interview
On 4 June 2020 the United Nations Security Council passed Resolution 2525 on the situation in Sudan. Resolution 2525 builds off of the establishment of the United Nations Integrated Transition Assistance Mission in Sudan (UNITAMS) in Resolution 2524 and outlines plans for a transition of the protection of civilians’ responsibilities to pass from the UN Assistance Mission in Darfur (UNAMID) to UNITAMS. The resolution also reaffirms “the primary responsibility of the Government of Sudan to protect civilians across its territory.”
