Resolution 2521 (South Sudan) S/RES/2521

29 May 2020

On 29 May the UN Security Council passed Resolution 2521 on the situation in South Sudan. Resolution 2521 renews the arms embargo and targeted sanctions for South Sudan until 32 May 2021. The resolution also strongly condemns past and ongoing human rights violations in South Sudan and emphasizes “that the [Revitalized Transitional Government of National Unity] RTGNU bears the primary responsibility to protect its population from genocide, war crimes, ethnic cleansing, and crimes against humanity.”
