Statement to the Security Council on The Situation in the Democratic People's Republic of Korea

On 22 December 201 the Assistant Secretary General for Human Rights, Ivan Simonovic, briefed the UN Security Council on the human rights situation in the Democratic People's Republic of Korea (DPRK), saying that abuses are being perpetrated in the DPRK in a widespread and systematic manner, as deliberate policy directed by the highest levels of Government, in many cases amounting to crimes against humanity.
