Statement of the Special Adviser for the Prevention of Genocide on the Situation in South Sudan

The Special Adviser for the Prevention of Genocide, Mr. Adama Dieng, delivered the following statement to the UN Security Council on 2 May 2014 following a visit to South Sudan. During his statement Mr. Dieng noted that we "must uphold our collective responsibility to protect the populations of South Sudan from genocide, war crimes, ethnic cleansing and crimes against humanity, as well as their incitement. Ethnicity must not be used as a reason to incite violence or demonise, exclude or attack any community or section of the population in South Sudan."
