Special Advisers on the Prevention of Genocide, Mr. Adama Dieng, and on the Responsibility to Protect, Ms. Jennifer Welsh, condemn the killing of hundreds of civilians in an alleged 21 August chemical weapons attack in Syria, saying the use of chemical weapons is a serious violation of international law and a war crime. The Special Advisers remind the Syrian government of its Responsibility to Protect and calls for an independent investigation into the events.
