Statement by the UN Special Adviser on the Prevention of Genocide on the situation in Mali

Mr. Adama Dieng, Special Adviser of the Secretary-General on the Prevention of Genocide, warned on 1 February 2013 of the increasing risk of reprisal attacks against ethnic Tuareg and Arab civilian populations in the Timbuktu, Kidal and Gao regions of northern Mali. In this statement he calls upon the Malian army to uphold its responsibility to protect all populations.
