Persecution of the Rohingya in Burma/Myanmar and the Responsibility to Protect
In January 2014 the Global Centre released a policy brief, "Anti-Muslim Violence in Burma/Myanmar and the Responsibility to Protect," in response to increasing anti-Muslim violence and discrimination across several regions of the country, following two bouts of anti-Rohingya violence in Arakan/Rakhine state in 2012.
During 2014 the human rights situation for the Rohingya dramatically worsened as a direct result of government policies aimed at Rohingyas' systematic persecution, segregation and disenfranchisement. In this Policy Brief, entitled "Persecution of the Rohingya in Burma/Myanmar and the Responsibility to Protect," the Global Centre for the Responsibility to Protect reflects upon the Rohingya's worsening plight and urges the international community to press the government of Burma/Myanmar to amend its policies.
