Instituto de Investigación en Ciencias Sociales (ICSO)

Instituto de Investigación en Ciencias Sociales The Research Institute of Social Sciences (Instituto de Investigación en Ciencias Sociales) coordinates the research agenda in the Social Sciences and History Department at Universidad Diego Portales. Its mission is focused on promoting a space for the academic exchange of ideas, developing social science research relevant to Chile and the region, and promoting links between the academic and public world in Chile and abroad.

Founded in 2004, ICSO has a strong commitment to contribute to public policy debates in issues such as democratic processes, accountability, social policies and cultural practices. Researchers are usually engaged in public policy debates through mass media concerning the modernization of state institutions as well as social changes.

Our research agenda concerning R2P focuses on two main areas: a) evaluating the policy process by which democratic countries in Latin America have adopted the concept of R2P, examining the main determinants of such a process, and b) examining specific areas such as transitional justice in post dictatorial contexts in order to learn from countries that have enacted truth, justice and reparation processes after transitions to democracy.
